L7C Hants (North) & Berks - April 2003
Blackbird falls off the fence.
By Steve Foster.
Two good weather meets and lots of cars out.
Welcome to some new members. We now have a Blackbird in the club. Ian Thornton, a friend of Jason's, liked Jason's 7. He was tired or wearing out brakes and tyres on his Beamer on track and thought a 7 would be good. In for a penny in for a pound, a Blackbird will do nicely thank you.
Other club news:
- Phil has a new colour scheme after a cycle wing conversion and a reskin and is going to be learning the secrets of DIY Armourfend soon.
- Jason has a new JPE screen that Phil and I fitted for him. He likes the extra performance and vision afforded but wonders about commuting in a downpour.
- I have fitted a limited slip diff and it feels right on the road. Lets see what the next race brings. I also aeroquip brake lined the pipes to the callipers doing away with the fixed copper line on the rear.
- Simon and Rory are going to be doing Spa in Rory's car as Simon's car won't be ready in time. 2 x 90 minute races, yikes!
- Roy got through his MOT with a little help from a friendly Cat.
- Brent has his throttle bodies installed but not fired up yet. Phil got him some Titanium rear wing protectors. Sharp drawing of breath at the price...
- Steve M has found the joys of balancing individual barrels on his Webers.
We did a little sound check on some cars at this meeting. All on slow setting and at 0.5m and three quarters revs:
- Ian T's Blackbird: 116dB Ouch!
- Jason's 1.6 Rover SS with 6" Powerspeed exhaust: 95 dB
- My VX XE race pipes / Techcraft exhaust: 104 dB
- Steve Motts 1700 XF: 98 dB
- Martins: 98 dB
- Jeremy's Zetec: ~95 (not sure about 3/4 throttle)
